Keyword Research

Keywords are one of the fundamental principles of SEO. In other words, the whole gamut of SEO is based on keywords. Keywords are nothing but the search strings or set of words used by the internet users to look for the information, products or service that they need online. Search engines pull out websites and list them in the search results pages based on the keywords used. A website becomes relevant or irrelevant to the search that is made based on the keywords that are used by the online user.

Knowledge about your business vertical is highly important to perform an in-depth keyword analysis.

Keywords chosen without proper analysis or without any knowledge about a particular business model will result in the selection of poor quality keywords. Secondly, your keyword research should also take into consideration your competitors into account. You should know the keywords for which your competitors are getting listed. You must optimize your website for those keywords to out do their online performance and for other relevant keywords as well for which they don’t get listed. This requires competition analysis of the keywords. As many think, keyword search or analysis is not a simple process.

It requires good knowledge about the business model, clear understanding about their target market, excellent language skills and analytical skills. Besides knowing your business, you should also know your target audience and their online behavior pattern and the choice of keywords that they will be using to refer a particular service or product. People from different geographic locations use different set of keywords to search for the same information, products or service. Therefore, the keywords should take into consideration the search patterns of people that belong to the region in which you are marketing your products or services.

If your keywords should have a heavy competition, it is important to optimize your website for secondary keywords as well to ensure a steady traffic. It may be highly difficult to get good rankings for highly competitive keywords right away so meanwhile you should start promoting your secondary keywords as you reinforce your primary or main keywords. Your website should not be optimized for too many keywords. Limit the number of keywords to each page to 3 to 4 keywords so that you will be able to get the most out of each keyword.

Come up with effective keyword strategy that suits your business model and your website and avoid all random approaches to ensure good results.
